Recipients of $187,000 in grants from a community health fund are getting help in improving access to health care in Worcester.
The Greater Worcester Community Foundation said Monday it has given funds this year to 16 agencies and initiatives in the city through its Fallon/OrNda Community Health Fund.
The Fallon/OrNda Community Health Fund was established in 1996 with an endowment gift of $4 million when the Fallon Foundation sold Saint Vincent Hospital to OrNda Healthcorp, which itself was bought just thereafter by Tenet Healthcare of Dallas. The Greater Worcester Community Foundation and Reliant Medical Group, itself formerly part of the Fallon Health System, determine where to send around $200,000 annually from the fund.
This year's recipients:
— Boys & Girls Club of Worcester for YouthReach, a targeted youth outreach program which provides a mix of programs and services delivered to the organization's most vulnerable youth.
— The CASA Project as part of a collaborative effort to address systemic barriers for children in foster care, particularly in mental health services.
— Catholic Charities Worcester County for provision of diapers and baby items for emergency services programs.
— Children's Friend, an affiliate of Seven Hills Foundation for its Gender Wellness Initiative, aimed at providing LGBTQ outpatient counseling services, family supports, and community trainings.
— Dismas House of Central Massachusetts to support in-house culturally appropriate counseling services.
